Big News!
We are super thrilled to announce that, after many years of trying, Emily and Lane will welcome their son, Kieran Robert Oliver, into the world this fall!
Why are we telling you this? I mean, pretty much everybody likes to hear about babies. But beyond that--we're telling you this because it's likely to affect you, our customers.
Emily is thirty-seven, and a Type 1 diabetic--this has not been an easy pregnancy so far, and it's only likely to get harder as we get closer to the third trimester. Emily is getting new information about her condition every week--what she can and can't do, what she should and shouldn't do, when she'll have appointments (the answer to that one, if you're wondering, seems to be all the dang time).
This shop is run with the help and support of many people, all of whom are fabulous, but a good portion of the work gets ready because Emily is willing to work long hours and long days to get it done. As her pregnancy progresses, Emily is less and less able to work those hours, and less and less willing, as her doctors tell her it will certainly affect the health of her baby. This has resulted in, and will result in, delays. We are sorry to have to say this, but if you need complicated or large work done quickly, we might not be the shop for you right now! Trust us, Emily wishes she could work with her former energy and strength just as much as you do. But Emily has already had to do emergency OB appointments twice when something seemed to be going wrong at work, and Emily doesn't want to do any more.
To give y'all an idea, generally, of what we expect to go on:
In July, sometime around the 4th, Townhouse will likely take a week 'off' to make sure everything is finished and ready to go before Emily really can't work any more. We ask that you don't disturb us during this week, as we will be tying up many loose ends for the good of all our customers!
Emily is currently planning on her last day being September 14th, but this is of course subject to change, as babies don't come when we call them! She will likely give birth sometime between September 14th and October 14th, and when this happens Townhouse is likely to be closed for two weeks to a month, because some of Emily's employees are also family members, who would like to greet their new relative as well!
The odds that Emily will need a c-section are high, which we're telling you so you know Emily will likely be absolutely unable to work for 6-8 weeks after giving birth, since she will have had major abdominal surgery and is, again, a Type 1 diabetic, which makes healing difficult. Emily's employees will be around after the first initial weeks--please be kind and understand that there might be some things we can't do, simply because Emily is the most experienced framer and truly cannot do them.
We're so, so sorry that these next few months are likely to be inconvenient and confusing for our customers. We wish we had some way of regulating or controlling this experience, but as many of you probably know, it's not easily regulated or controlled, and Emily has wanted this baby for a long, long time. We ask only that you be patient and kind as we fumble our way through a big life change--we promise we're trying as hard as we can to keep things normal, but it isn't always within our control.
